Why we chose to be nudists

In some of the first articles on this website we told you how we experienced our first time nude among others and how we accidentally landed on a nudist campground. This is pretty much how we rolled into it. At the time we didn’t ask ourselves too many questions about this, it was what it was, and we enjoyed it. Only later, after talking to several other nudists and after reading about it on the web, it occurred to us that we were actually pretty lucky because we were born in a country where nudism is quite accepted and because we both stepped into it together. We hear so many stories where one partner really had to convince the other to give it a shot, sometimes resulting in a life long nudist couple but other times the answer would remain a plain “No” and so there was one more closet nudist. Or worse.

In several other articles we’ve tried to give you some reasons to engage into nudism. 7 Reasons to become a nudie is such an example, but also in Undress to destress or Improve your body acceptance by going nude we’ve been talking a lot about the advantages of being a nudist.

All of the philosophies which you can find in above articles are not ours of course. But because we strongly believe in them, we’ve brought them to you in our own words.

Sometimes, however, a smart ass will ask us: “Yeah, yeah, we know about the feeling of freedom and the equality and the lack of tan lines and stuff like that, but tell me, why did YOU decide to be nudists?”

And they don’t want to hear the stories about how we accidentally rolled into it, they want to know why we stuck to it, why we got interested in it, to such an extend that we even started writing about it. Cont…Read full original article…

Out Of My Clothes And Into My Body: My First Experience with Nude Camping

The human body is self-regulating. It knows what it needs. Most of the time, the body is able to find balance within itself, without dictates from the brain. The body always seeks balance. I got out of my clothe inside my tent. I stepped out and stood up, naked from head to toe. My body needed the warmth of the summer sun, the gentle breeze of fresh air. My body said thank you, this is right for all of us. I let my body tell my brain there was no need for feelings of anxiety or shame. There was no need for those feelings because there was no room for them. I looked for them in all the usual places; the way I hold my arm in front of my belly, the decline and forward pitch of my head, the small space between my shoulders and my ears. I looked but I saw no shame, no embarrassment, no fear. My arms were relaxed, my shoulders were settled. I looked up and out, my collarbones spread wide, heart open. What I felt was bliss. What I felt was, in fact, me. My body and my brain agreed. I had made a right choice for them both and all was in balance within me.

I didn’t think it was the right choice a few hours ago. I had waited until the last minute to gather some things from the garage, and I wasn’t finding what I needed. I still had many questions buzzing around in my head. Were the campgrounds guarded at night? Should I bring a chair? What if I hate it? The afternoon was now tumbling into evening and I still had not finished packing the car. This early morning I took the car in for an oil change, but I forgot to get gas. I had a 3 ½ hour drive. Campsites at Turtle Lake Resort are not reserved and are given out on a first-come-first serve basis. I was hungry and I was stressed and I was anxious. Even though I called the resort no less than three times with questions, and perused the website countless times, I still had more questions. Could I have a campfire? For a moment I thought I should just wait and leave in the morning. I didn’t want to have to set my tent up in the dark. I stopped buzzing around and ate. Finally fed, I decided that I still had enough time to drive up to Michigan before sunset–at least 5 hours of daylight left. As I finished packing the last bag, I thought it was funny how empty the bag was without clothes. Cont…Read full original article…

‘It is such a liberating experience’: Naturists get real about life in the raw
A naturist lifestyle is about much more than getting your gear off.

When executive Stuart Whelan first decided to visit a nudist beach, he didn’t tell his wife. But she had suspicions he’d been up to something.

Stuart Whelan and his wife left their corporate life in Sydney to own and operate a naturist retreat in Nelsons Bay.

“When I got home she looked at me and said ‘Where have you been? You’re just beaming’”, he says. “I’d always planned to tell her, and she said ‘Wow … I’ve got to have some of that.’”

Thus began a journey that led Whelan, in his early 50s at the time, and his wife, from their corporate life in Sydney to owning and operating a naturist retreat in Nelsons Bay. For Whelan, getting naked in nature was “transformational”. Cont…Read full original article…

Nude awakenings: the misunderstood world of naturism

Andrew Welch would like to make it clear he has never had an orgy, thank you very much. Nor has he ever cavorted, prepared to cavort or even thought about cavorting. He is not a pervert, he is not corrupting your children, and he is not – for the love of God – ‘offending’ you. Andrew Welch is just a naturist, like millions of other people, and he’d love for you to join him some time.

Naturists being naturists, not a mass suicide
Naturists being naturists, not a mass suicide ALAMY

“The British public tend to have this absurd stigma about it,” Welch says, with a touch of exasperation. “It’s about nakedness in general. They think there’s something immodest or unnatural about it, that by being naturists we’re doing something illicit. It’s so far from the truth that it’s laughable, it really is.”

Welch has been Commercial Manager for British Naturism (BN) – the national organisation for social nudists – for over a decade, joining a small and committed staff of part-timers at the Northampton-based non-profit.

It’s his job to change minds and address the reputation surrounding a pursuit many dismiss as distinctly odd, conducted at best by elderly eccentrics with an unnerving love of volleyball, or at worst by sex-crazed elderly eccentrics with an unnerving love of volleyball. In reality, they barely even play volleyball. Cont…Read full original article…

The North Side of Naked Mallorca

After a few edgy opinion pieces, I thought it might be time to get back to documenting our naturist travels, leading out with a few words and pictures of our naked explorations on the north side of Mallorca.

Canova Beach
Canova Beach

This was our second visit to Mallorca, and likewise, our second stay at Skinny Dippers Naturist Retreat; an idyllic little haven just a few minutes drive from the famous naturist beach, Es Trenc. During our first stay about a year ago, we were so mesmerized by the place that we scarcely left the side of the pool, lacking neither the energy nor motivation to get dressed and explore.

This time, however, we decided we should see a bit more of the island, one day setting off on a train excursion from Palma to a little German enclave on the eastern shores of Mallorca, then another day driving directly north to check out a couple other renowned naturist beaches on the island. The Naked Truth About German Nudists

A FEW YEARS AGO, a black-and-white photograph emerged of three young women walking along a dock with an expanse of sparkling water behind them. All were smiling and were naked, and soon after the picture appeared online, gleeful commenters across the web began insisting that the woman on the left was Angela Merkel. The German chancellor’s office declined to comment, and while many now believe the photograph’s association with Merkel to be a hoax, there’s plenty of reason to think that Merkel, who grew up in a small East German town north of Berlin, came of age frolicking in the nude.

Germany’s millions of nudists, like those shown here, tend to be older, plump and proud.
Germany’s millions of nudists, like those shown here, tend to be older, plump and proud. Roshan Adhihetty

It would hardly count as conspiracy theory. Public nakedness is common in the former G.D.R.: Of the 8 to 12 million nudists in Germany, the majority live in the east and are over 50 years old. One regularly observes men and women of all backgrounds — from dull public servants to service workers to members of the German intelligentsia — relaxing and socializing without any clothes. They read alone in the park or chat in groups at the beach; some prepare to swim, while others wash down bites of bratwurst with pilsner.

They consider themselves members of an informal movement known as FKK, an abbreviation of Freikörperkultur, which translates to Free Body Culture. Despite the aggressive-sounding name, there is nothing confrontational or self-righteous or even erotic about it. Unlike in America, where public nudity typically has gay or countercultural connotations, in modern Germany it seems to have none. What began in the late 1800s as a kind of philosophy of physical health transformed, under authoritarian rule, into a mode of quasi-dissident leisure, and then later into something more temperate, a culturally ingrained but ultimately apolitical national pastime. ‘Voyeurism and accidental observation’ – Naturists object to 450-homes in Telford over fears they will be left exposed
Naturists have objected to a scheme to build 450 houses in Telford – because they fear they will be overlooked by home-owners.

Members of Telford Naturist Club warned of the risk of voyeurism or “accidental observation”.

An objection on behalf of the club’s base, Windings Caravan Site, raised concerns about the proposal.

Naked truth about naturism: Meet some of the people who love to strip off
Elland naturism club bares all for the first time

A naturist club revealed all this weekend when its members opened up for its first ever open day to mark The Great British Skinny Dip.

And no matter how many times you tell yourself that it is the most natural thing in the world it’s still hard not to feel at least slightly startled by the sight of stark naked men discussing Town’s chances against Southampton over a game of pool while their equally naked wives enjoy a cuppa and a chat.

Cont…Read full original article…

Research Study Shows How Naturism Improves Body Image, Self-Esteem and Life Satisfaction

At last, we have an actual research study about naturism and its positive effects on body image and happiness!

The research was published online in the Journal of Happiness Studies on January 21st. It set out to investigate the “possible psychological benefits of naturism.” As the author notes, naturists have long been making claims about how naturism improves self-esteem, body image, happiness and has many other benefits.
