NUMBERS BARE UP Irish naturists getting kit off during heatwave weather with ‘nude meet-up’ at Dublin’s Hawk Cliff
IRISH naturists let it all hang out as they lap up the heatwave and declared: “Come and join us.”

The buff lovers gave the boiling weather the bum’s rush by getting their kit off by the sea.

Our pictures show members of the Irish Naturist Association holding a “nude meet-up” yesterday [22 July 2019] at Hawk Cliff in posh Dalkey, south Dublin.

With the country set for more sweltering sunshine today, nudie bosses stressed the importance of suncream as temperatures soared to 26°C.

And speaking to the Irish Sun last night, INA president Pat Gallagher told how they have been blessed with their bare share of new members recently — and insisted they would welcome new more recruits.

He said: “We hold events across the country on a regular basis and everyone is welcome.

“When you get the good weather, you always seem to attract the numbers.

“Our membership has been increasing in recent times. There are more and more events across the country.

Woman, 52, is the ‘happiest she’s ever been’ after ditching clothes to become a naturist
A WOMAN has opened up about how “whipping of her clothes off” helped her regain confidence after “everything went wrong at the same time”.

Jane Baker, a first aid trainer, hit rock bottom after losing her job and relationship.

But when the 52-year-old spotted an advert in a local paper for an event at a naturist B&B, it all changed for her.

Now the mum-of-four admits that stripping off at the nudist hog roast party changed her life.

Speaking about the experience, Jane, from Carmarthen, South West Wales, said: “I stuck out like a sore thumb when I arrived. [It was] surrounded by three dozen or so strangers, all completely nude.

“But after I whipped off my clothes I felt the most comfortable I had in years.”

HAPPY: When she began naturism it changed her life
HAPPY: When she began naturism it changed her life

Jane, whose confidence was at an all-time low, will never forget her first foray into nudity.

She added: “Everything seemed to be going wrong at the same time and I knew I wanted to get away from it all, but I couldn’t afford a holiday abroad so decided to look for somewhere closer to home, which was when I found Acorns [Naturist Retreat in Tiverton, Devon].

“Driving down there I had to pull over twice and collect my thoughts – I was nervous beyond belief. When I finally got there it turned out to be one the most surreal moments of my life.

“On one side of me was a woman absolutely starkers doing her knitting by the pool, on the other side of me was a gentlemen in the buff doing the Telegraph crossword.”

“But the thing that struck was that, after 10 minutes, I completely forget that everybody was naked and started seeing people for who they are.

“That’s the beauty of naturism. When you take your clothes off you’re quite literally taking away the barriers and that’s the best way to meet new people.”

Naturists take over The Alnwick Garden for a night for special event
British Naturism headed to Northumberland for a special event at The Alnwick Garden

They were greeted by a bit of a mixed bag of weather but there was definitely no covering up against the elements when a group of naturists descended on Northumberland on Saturday evening.

Members of British Naturism headed to The Alnwick Garden for a special event which saw them have full access to the visitor attraction including the chairs in the Taihaku Cherry Orchard, The Ornamental Lake, The Poison Garden, Bamboo Maze, Ornamental Garden, The Grand Cascade.

They also tucked into homemade food and fresh coffee in The Pavilion Kitchen.

While of course it still raises a few eyebrows, Naturism is perfectly legal and British Naturism has over 9,000 members with events in waterparks, campsites, hotels and art galleries in the UK.

Ahead of British Naturism’s visit The Duchess of Northumberland, who owns Alnwick Garden, said “We are quite sure the naturists will have a marvellous time.

How To (Legally) Celebrate National Nude Day [USA]

Sunday, July 14 is National Nude Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the benefits of naturism and nudism. (While some use the terms interchangeably, other use naturism to refer to a philosophical approach to social nudity, and nudism to refer to a more casual approach to occasional social nudity.) If you enjoy the occasional skinny dip, this is a great time to embrace your naturist impulses and let it all hang out. On the other hand, if you’re only ever naked in the shower, this day is a chance to consider if you really want to live life as a never-nude.

“Naturism offers a unique combination of recreational activity, social engagement, healthy lifestyle, and environmental philosophy all rolled into one,” explains Liz Egger, author of The Complete Guide To Nudism, Naturism & Nudists. Naturists believe that going nude outdoors is beneficial to your health and decreases the risk of certain diseases. For some, there’s also a spiritual aspect — famous naturist Paris Jackson has said that naturism helps her connect with “Mama Gaia.”

Despite common misconceptions, nudism is not sexual, degrading, or dangerous to children, Egger says. “That’s what I call ‘lewdism,’ and it is practiced by those who are unable to separate nudity from sex. For them, nudity is just another sex aid,” she explains. “Real, genuine naturism, as it is practiced by millions of ordinary genuine naturists, is a natural, wholesome and refreshing remedy to the pressures of modern life.”

Naked activism

Nudity as a lifestyle as most of us practice it isn’t the only way the naked body is ‘used’.

The World Naked Bike Ride is a prime example of this. You probably know about it; a world wide event where, at a certain day per location, as many people as possible come together to ride bikes through a city naked, to protest car and promote the safety of cyclists. London is a famous location, as is Bristol and Brussels. Many more towns have a similar event, which is good.Continued…Read full original article…

Local nudist resort sees influx of new members, faces development challenges
Officials at Emerald Lake Resort, Montgomery County’s lone nudist resort, are gearing up for the annual celebration of au naturel fun as National Nude Recreation Week — celebrated this year from July 7 to July 14 — begins Sunday

But despite a growing membership and increased interest in the lifestyle, the resort faces an uncertain future due to a yet-to-be-determined development on the property adjacent to the resort.

Located off Loop 494 in Porter near U.S. 59, Emerald Lake has a long history in the Houston region as the only designated and officially recognized place for the thousands of Southeast Texas nudists to visit sans clothes. The resort, which has been owned by several different people and entities since the 1980s, sits on the former site of a gravel pit that was mined decades ago during construction of U.S. 59. The gravel pit, which filled with natural spring water after it was closed, is the center piece of the sprawling resort that features offices, two bars, a swimming pool, small beach and space for dozens of campers.

With National Nude Recreation Week beginning on July 7, management at Montgomery County's lone nudist resort — Emerald Lake in Porter — say the resort is seeing an influx of new members, especially people who are younger and also who identify as LGBTQ. The resort is hosting one segment of the 2019 World Record Largest Skinnydip on July 13 as part of the week-long celebration.

The resort is hosting one segment of the 2019 World Record Largest Skinnydip on July 13 as part of the week-long celebration.

Jonathan Gockel, the resort’s on-site resident manager, said the resort will be hosting events throughout the celebratory week of July 7-14, capped off by participation in the nationwide World Skinnydipping record attempt, scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, July 13.

“We try to be involved with as many of these events as possible to bring awareness,” Gockel said of the event, which is part of the resort’s partnership with the American Association for Nude Recreation.

Activities and preparation for National Nude Recreation Week began in early June when the resort hosted an “Olympics-style” game day involving pool volleyball, cornhole and other activities. Campers and other RVs with license plates from New York, Missouri and other states dotted the wooded resort as members of all ages frolicked sans clothes and cheered on participants in the cornhole contest.

Naked bodies against the “textile invasion”
Between sanctions, prohibitions and judicial resolutions of all kinds, on July 7 is celebrated the International Day of Naturism with calls to participate in more than sixty Catalan beaches

“Naturism is a way of living in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of common nudity, with the aim of promoting respect for oneself, towards others and towards the environment.” Promotes social equality; In many cases clothing puts artificial barriers, naked people are more equal among them, regardless of social class, ideology, religion … Naturism is a socially constructive philosophy and respectful to everyone, with their differences and just waiting the same respect. “

This is how the Catalan Naturist Club is presented, one of the four naturist associations that are part of the Naturist-Nudist Federation of Catalonia (FNNC), a coordination umbrella that works on the development of nudism in Catalonia and in the Interpel. With the administration, society and the media. On a wider scale, these associations are also part of the Spanish Naturist Federation (FEN) and the International Naturist Federation (FNI).
The latter is the convening of the World Naturism Day, a day of nudity promotion to be held this Sunday July 7 and, in Catalonia, becomes a call for the first nudist registration in more than 60 beaches of nudist tradition. “As a naturist entity we want to take advantage of this day to raise awareness about the need to protect the planet from climate change and the need to protect the Mediterranean Sea and plastic pollution beaches,” he said in the CCN call manifesto.

Festival goers strip for naked fun run covered in nothing but paint
CHEEKY festival-goers took part in a naked fun run today, with nothing but paint protecting their modesty.

The official Naked Run took place at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, ahead of music artists Robyn, Wu-Tang Clan, Vampire Weekend and Underworld hitting the main stage on Friday.

Lasses laughed as they took part in the stunt, some of them holding hands in camaraderie.

There was also some creative flair in the artwork the nudists daubed over their nipples, stomachs, boobs and bums.

Many lasses covered their boobs with naughty handprints.

Others cheekily painted hearts over intimate areas.

One creatively decided to turn her boobs into giant pink flowers — with a leaf covering her modesty lower down.

Despite it not concealing anything, another lass decided to paint orange bikini bottoms over her lower half.

And it wasn’t just the girls — some lads had funny ideas too — with one drawing elephant ears in a bizare place.

Calgary Nude Recreation to hold clothing-optional wave pool event

A controversial nude advocacy group operating out of Calgary is putting on a clothing-optional wave pool event this week, more than a year after much public outcry over a similar planned event.

Calgary Nude Recreation has booked out a facility that includes a wave pool, hot tub, steam room, water slides and a rope swing for the event set to take place on July 7.

An event organizer who goes by the name Naked Jeff told Global news the group is “all about body-positive values and encouraging people to be comfortable in their own skin.”

Jeff also said his group believes people have the right to be shameless about themselves and be respected “regardless of what they are or aren’t wearing.”

In January 2018, Calgary Nude Recreation cancelled their first planned major swim event at the Southland Leisure Centre after the facility received a volatile threat that caused safety concerns. Petitions against the event also circulated on Facebook in the days leading up to the cancellation.

Jeff said even though the January event had to be cancelled, they have held monthly events since without seeing any threats.

The trail less covered: International Hike Naked Day on the PCT

To the delight of hikers around the across the globe – and to the surprise of others! – June 21st is Naked Hiking Day.

The summer solstice has been observed for centuries in a variety of ways. However, Naked Hiking Day is a relatively new event. Though – should you be brave enough to approach one – advocates of nude hiking will tell you that it’s been practised since the dawn of time.

The date which falls on the northern hemisphere’s longest day (one presumes for maximum tanning opportunity) is marked by hikers donning their boots, packs and not much else before heading to the hills.

While it’s fairly common in Europe and the United States, the event is thought to have its origins on the Pacific Crest Trail. Known as the PCT for short, the trail stretches 4270 kilometres from the Mexican Border to Canada and generally takes the best part of five months to complete.

As Outside magazine’s Ian Tuttle headed to a portion of the track in California, he observed the track was “swarming” with long distance hikers – walking as nature intended.

What’s it like to go to a family nude swimming session?
“At my first event, I slung a towel over my shoulder and went down for breakfast – naked.”

Events organiser Pamela Fraser, 27, went to her first naturism event 14 months ago. She’s been to 20 since.

Spa days, archery, yoga, cider-tasting and even a Fawlty Towers-themed night with actors playing Basil, Sybil and Manuel – all without an item of clothing in sight.

She describes the first time she got naked at a large gathering as a “non-event’, adding “you soon realise people aren’t interested in what you look like.”

Pamela Fraser says she has "never been worried about what I look like"
Pamela Fraser says she has “never been worried about what I look like” Pamela Fraser

On Saturday [2 March 2019], she’ll join around 300 others of all ages, paying up to £21 for a skinny dip at Blackpool’s Sandcastle Water Park.

“It’s no different to going swimming with your costume on,” Pamela believes. “A lot of female costumes don’t hide much anyway.”

So why take your clothes off?

“The whole idea is you’re stepping back from the stress of life and the feeling that you have to fit into a certain mould.”

“You wouldn’t take your work clothes with you when you go on holiday and when you go home you probably get changed.

“Sometimes I get in from work and take all my clothes off – that’s me saying this is now my free time.”

Another nude swim planned at Calgary pool

Swimsuits will be optional at a public swim event next month being organized by Calgary Nude Recreation.

Scheduled for July 7, the event is open only to group members and their guests. Attendees must pre-register and the location is not being released publicly.

Organizer Naked Jeff, who declined to give his real last name, said they’re hoping to attract “like-minded people” to the event.

Calgary Nude Recreation is planning a clothing optional swim at a Calgary pool in July.

“The numbers we aren’t so concerned about, we’d rather have a good group of people,” he told CTV News Calgary.

“Nudity is a really big deal in our culture and we’re working on that and we recognize that a lot of people kind of need to see it for themselves. They visualize what they think it might be and it’s usually not very accurate compared to reality.”

Jeff said the group aims to push “body positive values.”

“We’re encouraging people to be shameless about themselves in their truest form, basically, acceptance of other people and being friendly,” he said.

“It’s respecting people regardless of what they are or are not wearing, which is really needed in our culture.”

Facebook will meet with protesters over its censoring of artistic nudity – days after a photographer staged a protest outside its New York office with dozens of naked models

Facebook has agreed to meet with activists calling for a change to the social media platform’s standards, which ban professional nude photography, following a protest staged outside the company’s New York City headquarters.

In collaboration with the National Coalition Against Censorship for their #WeTheNipple campaign, and women’s rights group Grab Them By The Ballot, artist SpencerTunick took photos of dozens of nude models during a Sunday morning demonstration outside the Astor Place subway station in Manhattan.

Several photos show the naked men and women holding nipple signs in the air while lying on the ground.

The women were shielding their own nipples with images of male nipples that Tunick called ‘donated nipples’.

Facebook told CNN it had been in talks with NCAC before the demonstration, but it had now ‘agreed to meet with the National Coalition Against Censorship and other stakeholders.’

‘Our conversations with the National Coalition Against Censorship preceded last weekend’s demonstration, and will continue on long after,’ a spokesperson said. ‘It’s important for us to hear directly from different communities who use Facebook and Instagram.’

Nude #wethenipple art action at Facebook headquarters calls out censorship

At sunrise on Sunday, June 2, 2019, 125 people posed nude in front of Facebook and Instagram’s New York City headquarters at Astor Place to challenge social media censorship. In collaboration with the National Coalition Against Censorship, artist Spencer Tunick created a photographic artwork as part of their #WeTheNipple campaign.

The campaign calls for a change in the polices of both social media platforms to allow photographic artistic nudity. NCAC has written an open letter to Facebook, which owns Instagram, asking them to commit to supporting artists, rather than silencing them. NCAC has asked Facebook to convene a group of stakeholders in the arts to develop new guidelines for artistic content.

Participants in Sunday’s art action covered their nipples with stickers of photographed male nipples, to highlight the rigid—and anachronistic—gender inequality in existing nudity policies. The nipple photographs used to make the stickers were generously donated by Bravo’s Andy Cohen, artist Andres Serrano, actor-photographer Adam Goldberg, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Whitney Biennial featured artist Paul Mpagi Sepuya and Tunick himself.

Eastbourne Naturist Swim Club and ‘The Renaissance Nude’
I happened to see an article online about Paris naturists arranging a visit to a modern art gallery – the Palais de Tokyo. It made the news not the least because 30,000 people wanted to get tickets to be naked in the art gallery. Although this was a private event and only 161 people were able to attend it was notable for being so newsworthy.

A friend of mine suggested we try the Royal Academy and specifically the exhibition ‘The Renaissance Nude’. I wasn’t sure this would have great appeal and I thought that pictures that were 500 years old might be difficult to relate to. After all many naturists believe that staring at others (dressed or not) is rude and we engage in eye to eye contact much more that non-naturists and that gives new naturists a comforting experience as they are given the confidence that people are interested in their personalities rather than their looks.

So actually we are viewing the pictures, much as a non-naturist might, to find out what people really look like, except that we know when we see an idealised representation that is unrealistic. This period from around 1400 turns out to be very interesting and the reasons for painting nudes then was often quite different from the current, often commercial, standpoint.

A group of naturists admire a nude cast of Hercules during a private event at Royal Academy of Arts in May in London

I wrote to them and a group visit was quite easily arranged, although we would be segregated as usual from the public having to attend after normal opening hours. The Royal Academy provided online ticket arrangements and organised a low key media release.

62 naturists visited and we were provided with a room to undress, the cloakroom stayed open, a photographer from Getty Images made some pictures and we all proceeded naked up the grand staircase and then up some glass stairs to the top gallery. Here we had the exhibition to ourselves for two hours. We were able to purchase audio guides and the main shop stayed open. There are also quite a few free galleries available to see and although there were several members of staff in the building who were not officiating with us, there were no signs of awkwardness. The staff who looked after us were very welcoming and at ease. Any trepidation that there might have been from the RA’s very first naturist visit soon evaporated and by the end we were discussing a repeat visit and we are keen to do so.

Farm Babe: Get ‘dirty’ on Saturday for World Naked Gardening Day

This Saturday, May 4, marks the 15th annual World Naked Gardening Day, during which people all around the world trim their hedges and prune the bushes … all in the name of being one with nature in the buff.

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) was founded and organized by Mark Storey from Nude and Natural magazine and permaculturalist Jacob Gabriel as a project of the Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC). In its early days, Storey had a vision of BFC engaging in “guerrilla pranksterism” such as hopping out of a van or showing up spontaneously in an urban environment and engaging in guerrilla gardening, which is the act of people who garden in areas where they don’t have legal rights to cultivate. (Abandoned lots, private property, neglected areas, etc.)

@mr_plantgeek

Despite spending very little money to promote the concept, over time WNGD has “grown,” and they’ve collaborated with groups such as the Naturist Society, the Naturist Action Committee, the American Association for Nude Recreation, and Clothes Free International. They claim it’s a fun way to promote wholesome and unashamed acceptance of the human body in a way that’s meant to be funny, lighthearted, and non-political.

Why garden naked? From WNGD.org:

“First of all, it’s fun! Second only to swimming, gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities people are most ready to consider doing nude. Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us — even if only for those few sunkissed minutes — that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.”

Nude swimming sessions are still going strong in Chester after 43 years
The sessions at Northgate Arena have been held since 1976

Each Saturday evening, around 50 people meet for a swim at Chester's Northgate Arena. It's a group made up of members of various ages, and it's a great chance for all of them to socialise, keep fit and have a good catch up. Nothing unusual about that, you might think. But actually, there's just one thing that's different about these swimming sessions as opposed to regular ones. All the swimmers are completely naked
Nude swimming sessions are held at Northgate Arena by Wirral Naturist Club
Nude swimming sessions are held at Northgate Arena by Wirral Naturist Club

They're members of the Wirral Naturist Club, which has been holding regular sessions at the Northgate Arena almost every week since 1976. Member Rod Burkey explained more about the club, which was founded on the principles of 'family naturism' and consists mainly of couples and families with some singles making up the membership. "We have members of all ages, backgrounds shapes and sizes," he said. "We're a friendly group, who enjoy socialising and keeping fit – although you may very well find that there is more talking than exercising! "Our swims are open to all ages and we are happy to attract and welcome anyone who wants to give naturism a try. Prospective members have to fill out a form and attend three swim sessions before being able to become members which gives all involved a fair chance to find out if they wish to continue," explains Rod. And if you haven't tried Naturism before, Rod insists there is no need to be embarrassed - it is 'a most pleasurable experience'. Continued…Read full original article…

And the Bride Wore, Um, Nothing (the Groom, Too)

When Carolyn Hawkins, 75, officiates at weddings, sometimes she dresses up and sometimes she dresses down. Way down. Like not at all.

Ms. Hawkins is a nudist. She has been a nudist for 38 years. Last year, she performed five nude weddings.

“The bride and groom are usually naked if they want to have a nude wedding, and sometimes they ask me to be. Sometimes I just wear a cover-up,” said Ms. Hawkins who has officiated at nearly 20 nude weddings, typically one or two each year, since the early 1990s. “I do whatever they want me to do.”

Jack Seay, 64, and Colleen Gordon, 66, married July 23, 2016 at Wildwood Naturist’s Resort, a 118-acre clothing-free facility, in Decatur, Tex.
Jack Seay, 64, and Colleen Gordon, 66, married July 23, 2016 at Wildwood Naturist’s Resort, a 118-acre clothing-free facility, in Decatur, Tex.

There are 31,000 registered nudists in the United States, according to Ms. Hawkins who is also the director of club relations for the American Association for Nude Recreation. She resides in Kissimmee, Fla., at Cypress Cove Nudist Resort, a 300-acre facility with hotel rooms, apartments, campgrounds, restaurants and a clubhouse, where she marries couples.

“Usually they’re in their late 20s, 30s, 40s,” Ms. Hawkins said. “One couple I had last year was 62. They had been together for quite sometime and weren’t really planning on getting married. One day they approached me, ‘Hey if we get our marriage license, would you marry us?’” She did.

Couples who opt for clothing-optional weddings are often nudists, but not always. Some brides and grooms have other motivations. Continued…Read full original article…

A Lighter Look At Life: Stripped bare… the naked truth about naturism
Yes, I peeled off for the convention – and spent the weekend shunning those individuals considerably bigger in the trouser department

Surprised, frankly, by the number of intellectuals at Saturday’s gathering of Young British Naturists (YBN). Doctors, solicitors, civil servants and IT specialists let it all hang out at the Midlands homage to “body confidence”.

They believe nudism is socialism in its purest form: only by shedding designer clothes and expensive bling can we be free from judging individuals by their chattels and accoutrements. In the buff, we’re all equal, claim naturists.

So why are there no nude photographs of Lenin?

Mike working hard to bring you the nudes, sorry, news
Mike working hard to bring you the nudes, sorry, news

As a philosophy, it’s deeply flawed. Yes, I peeled off for the convention – and spent the weekend shunning those individuals considerably bigger in the trouser department.

Rip away the trappings of wealth and mankind simply finds other things to be envious about.

One teacher asked during the flesh-fest at Erdington’s Clover Spa: “Have you read Marx?”

“Yes,” I admitted. “I think it’s the wicker furniture.” Continued…Read full original article…

Eating Nude: Why Naked Restaurants Are Not Good Business…Yet

For a while it seemed that naked dining was going to be the next big food thing in cosmopolitan cities of the world. The opening with great fanfare of several nudist restaurants that attracted global media attention seemed to be the harbinger of a new taste for ‘food in the nude.’

One-time events at clubs, bars, cruises and private celebrations linking eating and drinking with nakedness have popped up over the years, drawing their share of media coverage. But when twin brothers Stéphane and Mike Saada inaugurated the O’naturel restaurant in Paris in November, 2017, they seemed to have tapped an opportunity in the naturism market.

“We’re in the heart of Paris and we’re eating naked,” Yves Leclerc, president of the French Naturist Federation, told The Local at the time. “It’s a little surreal. It’s like when we’re on holiday, but even better.” He lamented that “at home, I have to put my clothes on to go to a restaurant.” Continued…Read full original article…

Inside Bristol’s first ever naked dining event
The last chunk of bread sits abandoned in the middle of the table – we may be naked but good old British dining etiquette still applies.

It’s not often I find myself completely starkers by the arches on a Tuesday evening, but surrounded by people all similarly unclothed with the tantalising scent of wood-fired pizza wafting in the air, it’s starting to feel like there could be far worse places to be.

Wind back about 15 minutes and the situation was a whole lot more uncomfortable.

Tentatively, I crept inside Flour & Ash for Bristol’s inaugural Dine Naked event to be met by a room filled predominantly with men, sipping from champagne flutes and making polite small talk.

Only the polythene bags ready for clothes to be deposited in set the scene apart from any normal post-work do.

Fighting a strong urge to turn and flee, I did what any self-respecting English woman would do and made a beeline for the bar. Complimentary glass of bubbly in hand, I scan the room for a friendly face and soon strike up a conversation with a nearby man.

He has travelled over from South Wales specially for the occasion and is something of a seasoned naturist as talk soon turns to traffic. Continued…Read full original article…

Hundreds of competitors prepare to bare all for glory at annual Maslin Beach Nude Games
While hundreds of people strip off at Australia’s oldest nudist beach this weekend for the annual Maslin Beach Nude Games, a nude aficionado has said Australia’s naked history comes from much more than fleshy frivolity.

Key points:

  • The nude games will be held at Maslin Beach in South Australia
  • Hundreds of nudists will compete in a range of events, including the best bum competition
  • A nudist historian says nudism in Australia was influenced by German settlers

Instead, keen nudist historian and editor of Australia’s nudist magazine “TAN” Stuart Whelan said Australia’s fondness for nude beaches stemmed from war and German settlement.

Australian troops once used nudism to mollify “putrid, humid” conditions in the Pacific, he said.

“During the World War [II] the soldiers often bathed and swam naked,” Mr Whelan said.

“A new generation came back with this experience which they wanted to try and emulate here.”

Organisers say the event brings the whole nudist community together.

Mr Whelan said the affinity with nude swimming was “reinforced by European migration”, especially German settlers who saw nudism as more normal.

“They brought those ideas and wanted to experience them in their new country and that was the start of the [nudism] movement in Australia.”

The large migration of Germans to South Australia likely influenced the creation of some of the country’s oldest nudist clubs.

“I’m sure that was one of the things that made the establishment of the earlier clubs a lot easier,” Mr Whelan said.

“It was something wanted by the German community.” Continued…Read full original article…

Nude yoga, beach volleyball au naturel among events at Zipolite’s annual festival

Zipolite beach in Oaxaca is always popular among people who like to spend time on the beach unclothed, but never more so than during its International Nudist Festival.

More than 4,000 participants are expected to celebrate the festival’s fourth edition from February 1 to 3, when activities will include nude yoga, beach volleyball au naturel, unclad obstacle courses and body painting.

Sami Pineda, mayor of the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, said local authorities are in favor of promoting the event because of the boost to the local economy.

The mayor said that since it began the festival has been considered one of the best by the international nudist community and attracts visitors from all over the globe. This year, she has asked the federal government for organizational help and assistance with security.

Juan Marcos Castañeda Jair, president of the Zipolite Nudist Federation, clarified that nudism is not sex or swapping partners but freedom, contact with nature, acceptance without giving undue importance to one’s physical characteristics and having fun with friends and family. Dining au naturel in Dublin

Dublin has now joined the list of other major cities such as London, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne and Tokyo to embrace naked dining. Irish Naturists in association with The House of Salads restaurant in Portobello combined forces for this maiden experience.

When this was first surfaced a year ago with talks of 45,000 people on the waiting list in London, talk did turn more locally and the question was raised: could such an idea work in Ireland?

After attending the INA supported premiere, I can confirm that the answer is a resounding “Yes !”

For the inaugural event which was restricted to members of Irish Naturist Association, demand far outstripped capacity and the event was sold out 6 weeks in advance. So what was it like I hear you say? Continued…Read full original article…

The after hours swimming club where everyone gets naked
Blinds have to be drawn, windows are blacked out and you have to sign in at the entrance

Every fortnight Plympton Pool hosts a rather special event for one of the city’s more unusual organisations.

On the surface ‘Plymouth Sun Club’ sounds fairly nondescript, you might be inclined to believe it’s a group of sun chasers desperate to sunbathe in spite of our mostly cloudy and unpredictable weather.

Perhaps they’re massive fans of right wing tabloid journalism and cheap coupon holidays? (Thankfully not)

In reality Plymouth Sun Club is a group of people who like to get naked.

Two club members baring all

This starkers society started life as the ‘Sunwest Club’ but folded in the late 1990s. In 2012 a man reinstated the group after finding there was nowhere in the city for naturists to meet up and practise their hobby.

The Sun Club as we know it today has been running since its inaugural event in April 2013 and has around 30 members.

Understandably some constituents of the group like to keep their pastime private.

This is probably because the nudist lifestyle is still the butt (sorry) of jokes and judgement, despite, shock horror , the fact we’re all naked underneath our clothes. Continued…Read full original article…

Eastbourne nudists organise naturist trip to the Towner Art Gallery
Baring all for a quick skinny dip is something many have experienced, but how would you feel walking around an art gallery in the nude? A group of local naturists recently did just that because, while many find nudity awkward, naturists feel that being naked is natural, comfortable and helps them to better enjoy their surroundings.

Philip Baker, of Eastbourne Naturist Swim Club, explained, “Naturism is about using the largest sense organ of the body – that is the skin – in addition to our other senses to fully engage with the natural world.”

Philip and a group of like-minded people recently enjoyed a trip around Eastbourne’s Towner Gallery without wearing any clothes. Members of Eastbourne Naturist Swim Club worked with national organisation British Naturism (BN) to organise and promote the gallery trip. They approached the Towner team with the idea and were delighted with the ‘immediately welcoming’ and non-judgemental response they received. Continued…Read full original article…

Nude paintings removed from cathedral art display after complaints of ‘distress’
A SERIES of nude paintings have been removed from a cathedral’s art exhibition after they “distressed” visitors and worshippers.

The four acrylic canvas works by local artist Joe Greenwood were on display at Portsmouth’s Anglican cathedral as part of a summer show by the Portsmouth and Hampshire Art Society (PHAS).

But a cathedral spokesman said that a number of visitors complained about the paintings, leading to the decision to remove them.

Facebook rejects Montreal museum’s ad over Picasso nude
A Canadian museum whose ads featuring Picasso nudes were rejected by Facebook says it is pleased the social media giant is reviewing its nudity policy.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts online ad for its big summer exhibit was blocked because it showed abstract breasts painted by the modern master.

The museum eventually had to reach out directly to Facebook in order to get the posts authorised.

The painting used “wasn’t shocking”, said museum spokeswoman Pascale Chasse.

In fact, Pablo Picasso’s Femmes à la toilette was the one of the main promotional press images for the show, which looks at the influence of African art on Picasso and the artist’s subsequent impact on contemporary African artists.

It was being used in print and television ads and on the main banner hanging outside the museum in downtown Montreal. Continued…Read full original article…

On Saturday July 7th, 2018th the VanTan Nudist Club will be holding an open house.

If you’ve never heard of them before, you’re not alone. The club operates quietly, despite being the oldest club of their kind in all of Canada.

They describe themselves as a “family friendly naturist club” and are affiliated with the American Association of Nude Recreation.

As you would expect they operate off the grid on a 3 hectare property, complete with composting toilets and solar power. A wood fired sauna awaits your nakedness. Heck, there’s probably naked people in it right now as you read this. Continued…Read full original article…
