Rarely seen dolphins delight pleasure boat passengers off South Devon

A pod of rare Risso’s Dolphins kept pleasure boat passengers spellbound in Tor Bay as they came into the bay for a rare visit. Skipper Ken Lane, who runs the Dart Princess from Paignton Harbour, said the pod of Risso’s Dolphins was the first he had seen in the bay for 50 years.

“They were a spectacular sight,” he said. “Everyone on board loved them.

“It’s the first time in 50 years that I have seen them in the bay. They are quite distinctive, quite large. When you first see their tall tail fin sticking out of the water you think it’s an orca. The fin is two feet tall. Read full original article…
