Cuestión de pelotas (In Spanish) A question of balls

A mí me parece, simplemente, incomprensible.

In 2017, why is nudity still taboo?

You may have read about that young woman who was arrested in Saudi Arabia earlier this week for walking around an ancient village in a mini-skirt. You were probably shocked and appalled. You may have also read the good news that ‘Model Khulood’ was subsequently released without charge.

You probably thought, like me, that it was a massive step forward for a country where women are still not allowed to drive a car, or go out without a full-body robe and a headscarf, or go about their business without a male guardian. So we should applaud this tentative step into… I was going to say the 21st century but much of Saudi’s sharia law is rooted in the 6th century teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, so there’s still a long way to go.

Modigliani’s ‘Reclining Nude’ (1917-18)

Khulood was dressed in a fashion that would be perfectly normal on a street in London or Paris or New York or just about anywhere outside those states with a strict interpretation of Islam. But before we start slapping ourselves on the back for our enlightened views, perhaps we should stop and think about how we’d feel if Khulood had not merely worn a miniskirt and crop-top but had gone topless. And, for example, done so not in Saudi Arabia but in London or Paris or New York. Or imagine that Khulood was a pop singer, onstage at the SuperBowl, and she – accidentally or otherwise – flashed a nipple. Read full original article…

Hundreds of nude artists will have their bodies painted at Washington Square Park on Saturday

Washington Square Park is filled with artists of all kinds during the summer. On any given day, you can find jazz musicians, sand painters or a man creating giant bubbles out of a questionable bucket of soapy water.

But this weekend, those who visit the park will be met with an altogether different kind of art: naked people. Saturday marks the fourth annual NYC Bodypainting Day, where hundreds of models and artists come together with the common goal of baring it all in the name of free expression.

The event is the brainchild of Andy Golub, who has been promoting nude art in New York for more than a decade. He was also behind the nude body-painting exhibition in Times Square in June, which brought roughly 200 nude painted artists to the tourist area. Saturday’s event is poised to be even larger, so get ready to see a sprawling celebration of the human form this weekend. Read full original article…

Naturism: “I raised my daughters in this practice without asking questions” (In French)

Of the 1.5 million French who practice naturism during their holidays , 45% were under 30, according to the French Federation of Naturism. Among them, many families.

Like Eric, 41, and his wife who are preparing to go to naturist holiday resort of Port Leucate ( Languedoc-Roussillon) this summer, with their daughters 8 and 11 years. “My children have not known that this type of vacation,” says immediately that Marseilles. And no question for him to go in a “textile” holiday centre [where people are dressed]. “It does not regain calm, closeness with nature and this special atmosphere,” he says.

In the naturist centre of Montalivet (Aquitaine).

“Converted to naturism there fifteen years, I have raised my daughters in this practice without asking questions,” he says. And this lifestyle is not reserved for holidays, but permeates the lives of the family: “For us the clothing is a social tool and nudity common practice at home, even in winter where you warm with a wood stove, “says Eric. The family even hired several au pairs specifying the ads for practising nudism at home. “We always find candidates who adhered to our way of life,” he reflects. Read full original article…

The nudist beaches in Wales where people are really cooling off when it’s sunny

There are a handful of nudist beaches scattered across the country.

But be warned – while some of the beaches are well established (and some of them are just for those in the know) there are often a number of local rules and regulations in place.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, naturists shouldn’t be prosecuted unless they are involved in an offence other than public nudity.

The say a balance needs to be struck between the naturist’s right to freedom of expression and the right of the wider public to be protected from harassment, alarm and distress.

So if you want to fully embrace the hot weather and say goodbye to those pesky tan lines – here’s a list of nudist beaches in Wales. Read full original article…

For single nudists, pool-side meet-up is a chance to connect

At 66 years old, Al Purdy has never been in a relationship with a nudist. But he would like to be, at least in the casual sense.

It was only a decade ago that he adopted the nudist lifestyle. A friend took him to a clothing-optional resort, and something clicked. He felt liberated, suddenly less conservative. Now, Purdy, a flight attendant, likes to spend his free time with other nudists. They get him.

Linda Kaye, 66, has been living at Caliente Resort & Spa for 14 years and leads and coordinates the Pasco County Single Nudists meet-up group. The group had its first event in more than two years recently.

That’s one reason the south Tampa resident drove up to Caliente, the nudist resort and residential community in Land O’Lakes, on a recent Sunday. Read full original article…

Surgeons can reduce spread of infections by operating nude: Study

HYDERABAD: In a finding that has all but scandalised doctors, a study conducted at the University of Washington has found that surgeons can reduce the spread of infections in an operation theatre by operating nude.

The study says any clothing – surgical gowns or normal clothing – aids in the spread of bacteria, which is best avoided.

Asked about this finding,Dr Vijay Dikshit, a senior cardiothoracic surgeon, who reaches to the very heart of the matter, said: “The scrubs and gloves are to protect the surgeons. We use disposable gloves for each surgery and linen scrubs used are sterilised and washed after surgery. I can say that the study is absurd because we have conducted so many hours of surgery and have never heard of infections through hospital scrubs.” Read full original article…

Fond Ghadir becomes nudist beach as two bathers enjoy a spot of skinny dipping

Bathers yesterday got more than they bargained for when they witnessed two men, who are probably foreigners, stripping off and going for a dip in the buff.

This newspaper [The Malta Independent] was told that the nude swimming session took place yesterday in Fond Ghadir in Sliema.

Under Maltese law it is illegal to swim naked. Even topless swimming (for women) is against the law, though the authorities close their eyes to the unofficial nudist beach at Ghajn Tuffieha. Indecent exposure carries a potential three month prison sentence and a fine. Read full original article…

Cornwall crackles in the summer sun

Beneath the clearing sky, people gravitate from car park and cafe towards the life-guarded beach. By Roundhole Point, kayakers paddle and huddle around their instructor, and further west, low tide reveals the expanse of sand in Harlyn Bay.

Close to the shore alexanders along a track are clustered with an abundance of little stripy snails along the bare stems and among the umbels of black seeds. Perhaps these snails relish the celery flavour and thrive in the mild seaside weather, but (as with the tourists and sun-seekers) their numbers diminish away from the sea.

Nudism and fireworks: The infractions that keep Canada’s national park wardens busy

Nearly half the incidents of nudity that Parks Canada wardens dealt with in 2015 took place in Jasper National Park. Was it one incorrigible nudist or is Jasper a naturist hotspot? Privacy laws mean we may never know. But data released about what keeps the guardians of Canada’s national parks busy tells other stories, too.

Across the country, officers spend their time responding to camping permit violations, highway violations and campfire violations, which make up about a quarter of the total incidents at national parks. Liquor violations (of course) and people entering restricted areas make up the rest of the top five, according to data from Parks Canada.

An incident is any situation that involves a park warden, said Tamaini Snaith, the director of the law enforcement branch for Parks Canada. Read full original article…
