Rare bird puts paid to second nude beach in Belgium
The chance that Belgium will approve a second naturist beach at the coast became less likely after a report by the Flemish Agency for Nature and Woodland, which said that the activities of naturists could be a risk to a rare bird.

At present the Belgian coast has one naturist beach where naked sunbathing is permitted, at Bredene. But the beach is very popular, which led the Belgian Naturism Federation to request permission to open a second beach where naked sunbathing is permitted. Their attention fell on a little-used beach near Westende. “At that spot there is no construction or seafront overlooking the beach,” said the organisation’s president Koen Meulemans in Het Nieuwsblad.

However the nature agency raised objections with Flemish environment minister Joke Schauvliege, based on the presence at that spot of the crested lark (Galerida cristata), a rare bird which broods on the ground, and might be disturbed by what the agency called “subsidiary activities” related to the nudist beach, including visitors having sex in the dunes as well as leaving rubbish behind. Beavers born in Cornwall for first time in 400 years
The first baby beavers to be born in Cornwall in 400 years have been caught on camera.

Now juvenile beavers, known as kits, have been spotted playing in the water on a farm near Truro.

Their parents arrived at Ladock last year, as part of a project to reintroduce the creatures.

The five-acre fenced site at Woodland Valley appears to be the perfect spot for these litter creatures!

They were filmed after farmer Chris Jones spotted them at the start of the week and alerted project partner Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

The Cornwall Beaver Project team were all hoping for some good views during their regular Wednesday night beaver walk.

Then filmmaker Nina Constable managed to snap this footage for BBC Springwatch… Continued…Read full original article…

When Piping Plovers Closed Down Rhode Island’s Nudist Beach

In the late 1980s a battle emerged between federal officials’ efforts to protect the breeding environment of piping plovers and Rhode Island’s nudists and their use of the same spot — Moonstone Beach in South County. And, of course, add in a little political intrigue.

Nudity Isn’t Illegal in National Parks, But Don’t Do Anything Weird

Nature is glorious. It can make us feel a whole lot of ways — sometimes nature’s splendor makes us want to charge all the way up a mountain, or break out our stupidest dance move on the beach at sunset, or strip down to our birthday suits and skip through a field of wildflowers.

Signs prohibiting nudity are posted on San Onofre State Beach trails in North San Diego County, Calif. There's actually no federal regulation against it in national parks, but some states prohibit public nudity, so don't assume you are safe to strip down because you're in a national park.ALLEN J. Signs prohibiting nudity are posted on San Onofre State Beach trails in North San Diego County, Calif. There’s actually no federal regulation against it in national parks, but some states prohibit public nudity, so don’t assume you are safe to strip down because you’re in a national park.

But what happens when our deepest instinct is to strip down naked to take in a primeval forest or a spectacular mountain vista, in a place where a lot of other people are definitely going to be around to spectate? Like in a national park, for instance. Turns out, you wouldn’t be the first person ever to have that impulse. But like so many other impulses, it’s important to know whether it’s legal. After all, why nudism?

The question is legitimate. Why getting naked in front of others? Why doing activities entirely naked, like swimming, hiking or cooking? Many blogs, articles, and books provided answers, including mine with articles like 4 good reasons to be nude or 7 reasons why nude is better for social activities with friends.

However, as I was preparing my lunch, naked as most of the time, the question why nudism? popped up in my mind. So I decided to look at it with a twist. So whether you are a nudist, an aspiring one or a pure textilist, here’s a way to look at the answer to this question.

Let’s start with the premises that nudity is totally normal. I know, for most people it’s not. Nudity and modesty are tied together, and nudity belong to private closed rooms. However, this is the twist. Let’s say that nudity is normal. Imagine it (it’s much easier if you are a confirmed nudist)! Continued…Read full original article…

First fines given out as fishermen flout new controls at Devon beauty spot
The catch limit is 20 mackerel but some are taking way bags full from this special site

The first fines have been issued to anglers who are taking too much fish and leaving too much rubbish at a Devon beauty spot.

It came as volunteers cleared tens of kilos of lost or discarded fishing gear from the waters around Hope’s Nose endangering the marine wildlife in Torbay which has a marine conservation zone.

Large volumes of fish caught by individuals. This is a breach of the PSPO in place at Hopes Nose.
Large volumes of fish caught by individuals. This is a breach of the PSPO in place at Hopes Nose.

The cliffs at Hope’s Nose have long been popular with anglers because of the rock platforms. Different species of fish are targeted by anglers. It is reliable mackerel fishing, these can be caught in large numbers.

But while most anglers and other users in the area act responsibly, there have been concerns about antisocial behaviour including camping and dumping rubbish at the spot which is recognised as of special scientific interest. Cont…Read full original article…

Rarely seen dolphins delight pleasure boat passengers off South Devon

A pod of rare Risso’s Dolphins kept pleasure boat passengers spellbound in Tor Bay as they came into the bay for a rare visit. Skipper Ken Lane, who runs the Dart Princess from Paignton Harbour, said the pod of Risso’s Dolphins was the first he had seen in the bay for 50 years.

“They were a spectacular sight,” he said. “Everyone on board loved them.
