Nudist swims for kids defended as ‘safe, happy and healthy’
Ryedale Naturist Club offered children free tickets to its naked swims :: Leading naturists said the sessions are in children’s ‘best interest’

Naturists have jumped to the defence of naked child swim sessions, claiming they are in children’s “best interest”.

Leading lovers of nature hit back against “mass hysteria” prompted by Ryedale Naturist Club’s free swim offer to under 18s.

A council investigation was launched into the club after The Gazette disclosed details of an advert encouraging kids to swim nude alongside adults at Derwent Pool, near Malton, North Yorkshire .

References to children, and the club’s free entry offer, have since been deleted from the club’s website after a flurry of online anger.

But British Naturism (BN) stood by the sessions, saying: “A naturist environment is a safe, happy and healthy environment for a child to be a part of.

“Prudery, not openness or nudity, harms children.”

Andrew Calow, from BN Yorkshire, said it is in a child’s “best interest” to see real bodies rather than explore the internet.

He said: “Don’t let readers’ prejudices masquerade as facts. Naturism is a family activity enjoyed by people all over the world.

“Children are safe attending a naturist swim with their parents. They attend as part of a family unit.” Continued…Read full original article…

Nudist paradise: The public pool hosting £5 naked swim sessions and ‘kids go free’ offer
Naturists from Teesside and beyond flock to a council-owned pool in North Yorkshire to bare all :: Even children are encouraged to swim nude

The idyllic North Yorkshire district of Ryedale is an unlikely nudist paradise.

Best known for Eden Camp, Flamingo Land and Castle Howard, it boasts a much more obscure attraction.

Naturists from Teesside and further afield flock to council-run Derwent Pool, near Malton, for £5 naked swim sessions.

The public pool and sauna offers the “best chance of a naked swim” in the North when its doors close to the public between 3pm and 5pm every other Sunday.

“Our swims are just like going to any council-run swimming pool except we don’t use swim-wear,” proclaims Ryedale Naturist Club’s website. Continued…Read full original article…

The naturist campsites in Wales where happy campers strip off for their stay
“The place to be when you’ve nothing on”

When you’re going camping, it’s important to pack essentials like a sleeping bag and a tent.

But if you’re visiting one of these places, you might want to unpack your clothes.

A number of naturist campsites can be found dotted across the country, and they encourage guests to embrace the naturist ethos by enjoying their stay in the nude.

Located in quiet and often rural areas, many of the sites provide camping pitches, campervan hook-up points and even cottages or chalets to rent.

Some also offer facilities such as hot showers, swimming pools and game courts.

But one thing they do all have in common is that they’re frequented by people who prefer being in the buff. Continued…Read full original article…

Standard Deviations: ‘Nakationing’ — naked vacationing — is a thing?
They’re calling it “one of the fastest growing trends in both travel and recreation.” Me? I call it just plain awkward.

Apparently, the “nakation” is a thing now.

At least, that’s what the American Association for Nude Recreation would have us believe.

You’ve heard of the “staycation”? The “mancation”? Even the “praycation”? Well, get ready for the nakation, a trademarked combination of “naked” and “vacation.”

Logo for International Skinny Dip Day
Logo for International Skinny Dip Day

I know about the nakation because awhile back a friend forwarded to me an email from the aforementioned AANR — based in Kissimmee, Florida — announcing that the group has designated the second Saturday in July as International Skinny Dip Day. This raises two troubling questions, in my mind:

1. Isn’t it a tad presumptuous for a group calling itself the American Association for Nude Recreation to assume it has the authority to declare an International Skinny Dip Day? I mean, you’d think they’d at least get input from naked people in other countries before making such a bold proclamation.

2. Why would anyone send an email about skinny dipping to me, the guy about which there’s absolutely nothing that could even remotely be considered “skinny”? Continued…Read full original article

Naked Utopia: how England’s first nudists imagined the future

The naked body is as old as humanity. But nudism as a social form, organised into clubs and societies, only came of age in England in the 1920s. Its practitioners were from a range of backgrounds and included those with interests in “physical culture” (today we would refer to this as body building and beauty contests). Many were interested in natural health, including vegetarian and raw food diets, and new exercise regimes from hiking to yoga.

‘Sun worship’. Health and Efficiency magazine, 1935.
‘Sun worship’. Health and Efficiency magazine, 1935. H&E naturist magazine/Hawk Editorial Ltd.

Nudism was particularly embraced by artists and intellectuals as part of a wider set of progressive practices associated with free thought. Many were internationalists inspired by longer standing German nudist traditions, which were far more popular and organised on a larger scale than English efforts. They understood disrobing to be part of a wider ideal of physical, mental and spiritual liberation. Continued…Read full original article…

Nudists being welcomed to Irish leisure centres to use pools, saunas, steam rooms and even water slides as naturist community continues to grow
Indoor private nude swim sessions are growing in popularity across the country

NUDISTS have been hosted in seven swimming pools – including one with a slide – as the community grows in numbers across Ireland, we can reveal.

The latest new venue to rent out their facilities was Coral Leisure in Co Monaghan which allowed naturists to use its pool, sauna, steam room and even its water chute.

He said: “It is not exactly for me, but whatever you are into!

“No complaints. They are a private user group. They pay a rental fee to come in outside of normal opening hours. We have had no issues.” Continued…Read full original article…

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Amongst the Military and Veterans

Today, we share an infographic titled “The Silent Enemy: How PTSD Damages Our Soldiers”.

Rehab 4 Alcoholism

This infographic points out that many of the serving or veteran military personnel who are diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are simply not receiving the clinical or financial support they need.

This is despite the fact that PTSD is more understood than ever before. In fact, as the infographic points out, doctors have been treating soldiers for psychological effects of combat since World War I. Continued…Read full original article…

Naked in Motion – 2 years of nude yoga in New York, and counting

‘Naked in Motion‘ is a group of a few yogis in New York City and Boston with a great mission “to create spaces where all people can experience the freedom and empowerment of clothes-free movement without worrying about their safety”, and they have been making lots of buzz in press! So much in fact, that it’s hard to believe they are only two years old. This is particularly encouraging, given that many naturist events and organizations in NYC have recently disappeared, e.g., body-painting dance parties, Zensual yoga, Vita Nuda gatherings and sudden departure of YNA (I certainly miss their Nude Year’s Eve parties).

So, I finally made it to visit ‘Naked in Motion‘ – for their birthday class last Saturday (which only makes more sense to celebrate in birthday suits). The class was led by the founder – Willow and she made sure it was a safe and comfortable experience for all. Before the class, she read ‘Community Rules’ (which also came in the confirmation email). Frankly, I am not a fan of rules, but I may be just used to being in the naturist environment, where there is usually no need for such rules to be told explicitly – I heard from other newcomers that they appreciated this approach. The major part of the rules ensures that the environment is non-sexual and body-positive, and a subset is aimed to women and transgender people in particular, as they may have additional hurdles on their way to feeling comfortable in their own skin. All The Ways Being Naked Can Make You A Healthier, More Confident Person

There are plenty of reasons why people chose to become nudists, we have already discussed some in our article 7 reasons why you want to be a nudie so we’re not going to repeat them all. But shortly summarized it’s mostly about comfort, self esteem, liberation or the connection to nature.
Those are the same reasons we use to explain our nudie lifestyle when people ask about it and more than often the other party understands, agrees or even gets tickled to give it a try themselves.
But recently someone countered our answer with: “Yes, but why do you need to do that in group?”
“Well… well.. yes… good question!”

As a matter of fact we couldn’t really think of a good reason at that moment. And the person was right. We all have our own reasons to be nude, whether it’s because we don’t like tan lines or because we prefer the touch of a summer breeze over the touch of fabric on our bodies. Those reasons explain why we like to take off our clothes, but not why we like to do so among others.
We had to think about this because this question kept playing in our heads (and because we hate to stand speechless).
Why do we sometimes travel far to (and often spend money on) just being naked in group? Continued…Read full original article…

Nudist Reality vs. Cancelled Calgary Nude Swimming Event

It’s 2018 and the community that wears a swimsuit in the pool or ocean has a long way to go to understand the nudist lifestyle and values Recently the city of Calgary cancelled a nude swimming event planned for an indoor swimming/recreation facility sponsored by the group Calgary Nude Recreation.

This wasn’t the first time a nudist group had rented a city of Calgary owned facility for an event and it won’t be the last either. Unfortunately this time, public outcry and threats of violence pushed city officials to cancel the event. An online petition supported by more than 22,000 people framed the argument against the event stating the following concerns:

“I respect the concept and believe in an 18+ setting it could be a popular event. However, having naked children around a bunch of naked adults doesnt seem like a good idea for any reason. Realistically there is alot of mental illness out there that this event could trigger/effect. Continued…Read full original article…

There’s a Tribe of Modern Day Nudists in Australia
Stepping up to a mind-melting lookout, whipping your clothes off and letting your unmentionables dangle as freely as the day you were born. Welcome to the secret life of modern day nudists.

He never really understood the big fuss around nudity and never developed the awkward inhibitions that he reckons society places on us. “It’s no big deal in my eyes, we’ve all got the same parts and we’ve all seen it before!”

How It All Began

Like all good things, it started out as a bit of innocent fun. As a modern day Christmas gift for his fiancé, he snapped twelve shots of himself at Sydney’s most scenic locations, each with a common theme: only a birthday suit allowed. He turned the cheeky pics into a calendar, covered it in tinsel and made his partner’s Christmas that year.

For a giggle he also created the Get Naked Australia Instagram page. It would seem there are a few closet fans of naturism out there too, the page went viral and in a little over a year the page has grown to 216k followers and become one of our favourite social pages in the digi-sphere.

Initially it was just his friends joining the starkers party, but it quickly snowballed and now fun folk from the length and breadth of the country share their prized snaps with Brendan. Continued…Read full original article…

¿A dónde viajan los nudistas en invierno?

¿Qué hacen los nudistas en invierno? ¿hibernan?

Love the Skin You’re In

This year the New Zealand Naturist Federation are creating a powerful summer campaign to create awareness of the benefits of naturism to a person’s body, mind and soul.

The concept is “Love the Skin You’re In” which aligns to our gonatural brand tag-line of ‘health and well-being’ and will focus on two really important issues that many are faced with today – positive body image and mental health awareness – and sometimes these are interlinked.

New Zealand Naturist Federation

Body image is the mental representation that one creates of themselves, and because it is subject to all kinds of internal elements like our mood, our experiences and social attitudes, it often doesn’t bear any close relation to reality or how others see you.

A negative body image is one of the key reasons that more people do not embrace the naturist lifestyle. They mightn’t have any issue with nudity per se and might even realise the many benefits that can be experienced physically from being clothes-free, but think it’s only for other people feeling too self conscious or body shamed to partake themselves. Many of our members can attest to having similar feelings and issues with acceptance of their body before embarking on their naturist journey however almost as soon as they took that first step, or at least very early on, they found they were looking at themselves through very different eyes.

This is the Weirdest Press Release We’ve Gotten All Week
Hint: it involves nudists.

As you can imagine, as the editors of a publication that reports on the best of our fair city, we get a lot of hot news tips in our inbox. Publicists will reach out to let us know about cool restaurant openings, entrepreneurs will share info about their startups and big brands will send over their fall lookbooks, all in hopes of coverage for print or here online. Most of the time, these emails help us do our job, inspiring stories and assignments and keeping us in the loop about what’s going on in the city. (Keep it up, you sweet things.)

But other times, we’ll take a nice big sip of hot coffee, open a press release and do a spit-take—this morning, for example, when we received a note from a mysterious American PR company. The subject line? “Why Nudists’ Favorite Kitchen Aid is the Slow Cooker.”

At first, we thought we might be reading a release from the beloved appliance brand KitchenAid, but upon further reading, this was very much not the case. Rather, it was a dispatch from the publicist of the American Association for Nude Recreation, sent from Kissimmee, Florida (presumably where national headquaters is located? Scared to Google it in case IT takes our computers away). Continued…Read full original article…

Nude beachgoers behaving better, say police

Tweed-Byron police say that they have seen a reduction in antisocial behavior since Byron Shire Council erected signage at Tyagarah clothing-optional beach a month ago.

To celebrate, the Byron Naturists group will hold a sports and social day on the beach this coming Sunday, December 3, weather permitting.

Chief Inspector Luke Arthurs told Echonetdaily that police had ramped up patrols of the beach following the installation of the signage on November 3, and it appeared to be having dividends. Continued…Read full original article…

Why nudism is critical and matters to society

Nudists know the many benefits of nudism and shared nudity. However, a vast majority of people, who are not nudists, see nudity as bad. We know this feeling is rooted in education as well as the fact that society has been sexualizing nudity for years. Therefore, people associate nudity to sex, and because sex is private, nudity should be. End of the story for many people.

Nudists have disassociated nudity and sex. Being naked is therefore normal, natural and social. With this, every nudist has been exposed to all sorts of nude bodies: every color, gender, body shape, scars, etc. Nudists know that nudism is all about being comfortable in our ones skin, with ones own body. When kids are exposed to nudism early or adults later when they embrace the nudism lifestyle, they understand that people are all different and come to respect, and appreciate, those differences. Ballarat East Bowling Club gets cheeky with nude calendar

Ballarat East Bowling Club have come up with an unconventional fundraiser: a nude calendar featuring some of their best bowlers.

The calendar features members doing the usual club duties, such as mowing and updating the score board, while stark naked. Around 150 copies are being printed, featuring people between the ages of 21 and 86.

Baring all: Ballarat East Bowling Club sponsorship manager Catherine Phillips shows off their cheeky nude fundraising calendar, with proceeds going to refurbishing the top green.

Strange Rules and Little-Known Etiquette for Nudist Colonies

Ok, I hate the term nudist colonies. It feels as this was a kind of a sect or secret cult. Then the use of strange seems to mean that this is a kind of a weird places. Any nudist club or resort is neither a sect nor a weird place. It’s a just a place where people live their own lives while enjoying total nudity.

However, the post Strange Rules and Little-Known Etiquette for Nudist Colonies is much better than its title implies. It describes the unknown rules to non naturist that are applied to almost all the nudist resorts in the world, and uses wonderful paintings to introduce each of it. Let’s list the 12 rules described in this post: Continued…Read full original article…

Naked Swimming in School

Continued…Read full original article…

Why this man thinks more people in Devon should get naked
“There are times when clothing is uncomfortable and unnecessary – nudity is often far more practical.”

A national advocate for open nudity has spoken about why he thinks the attitude to being naked needs to change.

Peter Wright, 64, a legal volunteer for the British Naturism group, got in touch after reading several stories about naked people on DevonLive last week.
