It has only been a few years since I started considering myself a naturist. I found it difficult at first to find the information I was looking for. This was especially true of the information I find most valuable which is the stories of others experiences that I think help show you are not alone, not the first to have felt s certain way or experienced something, and that when you do hit a bump in the road you can muscle through it. This was the inspiration for my blogging life. Along the way I have included tips and tricks I have picked up from my experiences as well as links to other sources I have found useful that are scattered in my now 40 plus blog posts. For this post I decided I would try and put as much of that important information in one place as I could for those that are new to naturism or are considering it. If you are not interested in being Naked in Nature or social nudity, or you feel you are already at an expert level of naturism, this is not for you and I will instead offer you this more useful YouTube video of paint drying.
What is Naturism?
If you found yourself here you likely already have your own idea of what naturism/nudism is and as a believer that it means something different to pretty much each individual so I wont pretend to have the perfect answer. What we all can agree on is that it has nothing to do with sex, and the harder time you have finding the line between sex and nudity, the harder your transition to being a naturist will be. Naturism to me in the simplest form is that clothes are a tool and not a requirement. In its most idealistic form nudity is an effective channel to many goals like equality, body positivity, self confidence, connecting with nature and in my opinion a great representation of Marshall McLuhan’s “The Medium is the Message” for those who really want to get philosophical about it. Ultimately if you think you know what naturism or nudism is you are probably right and if you are unsure give Wikipedia a try.
Where to start?
I once saw a post that said “How to be a naturist: Step 1 – Go Outside, Step 2 – take off your clothes, Step 3 – Enjoy” and in a perfect world it would be that simple. My step one would in fact be to ask yourself, what exactly are you looking for? Maybe you want to charge in at full steam, maybe you want to walk before you run. Maybe the most important thing for you is that you actually experience Naturism in nature. For the less timid of us who want to take the bull by the horns here, it should not be too hard to find your closest landed or non-landed naturist group and go for it. Finding that location maybe a bit more difficult for some, see further below for some help there.
